Season 3 Episode 9 (47): "Nightmares of the Dark"

During the very middle of the night in Equestria, Alicorn Twilight Sparkle kept tossing and turning, occasionally whimpering. In her dreaming, she appeared in her Lyoko outfit, humanized, and her Wrist Launchers strapped on. She had wandered in what it looked like a fog of purple smoke, although not toxic or poisonous. "Whe-Where am I??" she asked. At that point, the range of the fog expanded into a road-like Field with a tunnel under it - an area piece that looked like it came out of a videogame. She spotted a figure in the fog coming closer. "Who's there?" she asked. Her fears were met when the figure emanating from the fog was none other than Mephiles The Dark himself. "You... You must be the Mephiles I've.. been hearing about!" she said. "Ah, you've heard of me? And I suppose you're the young equine that has recently obtained royalty... Twilight Sparkle, is it?" Mephiles asked. Normally, she'd flinch from the thought the villain had gotten her name right, but instead she just frowned.
"What do you want?" Twilight asked hesitantly. Mephiles came closer but stopped just a few feet from her, and remained emotionless. "Nothing much. Although I bet you wonder, why we are meeting here in your dreams?" he asks coldly. "I would very much guess that, yeah. Although this IS a dream you can't harm me." Twilight says. Mephiles chuckles menancingly, attempting to take his right glove off. "Normally not, but in THIS realm, ANYTHING can be possible... Little equine!" he speaks as the hidden hand under his glove reveals dark and ghostly claws that seemed to extend and increase in power, prompting fear in Twilight. (He can't--! What IS HE?!?) Twilight spoke in fear in her thoughts. "Now taste my fear!!" Mephiles says as he begins to thrust at Twilight with his bladed claws. He hits her with her attack, feeling pain and screams - waking her up immediately. She pants and huffs as she wakes up back in her bed, with a worried Spike also waking up looking at a scared Twilight Sparkle.
"T-Twilight! What's wrong?" Spike asked. "I-I d-don't k-know, Spike." she says scaredly. "W-What a nightmare." she adds, holding her hooves to her head, feeling like crying. Spike gets out from his little bed and jumps towards hers, and tries to console the scared Alicorn.

The next morning, Kurisu, Jeremie, Alexis and Aelita were called in by Twilight Sparkle on the count of the recent distress. What she says was a nightmare, but by filling in the details, they feared it could've sounded worse. To Kurisu, it sounded familiar - of what was once one of Evil Xana's old plots by using fear as a tactic by using Nightmare Poison. "And you said Mephiles attacked you without any other warning?" Aelita asked. "Yeah, It was all so sudden... I felt... so scared." Twilight replied. Alexis pounded the floor with her hooves in frustration. "ARRGH! That stinky Mephiles, attacking an Equestrian like that!! I feel so horrible..." Alexis said. "It's... It's not YOUR fault, Alexis..." Twilight replied. Kurisu could relate - she DID seem VERY easily shaken up. Anypony could, going through nightmares like that. If that's the problem, Kurisu had an idea...
"Say Jeremie? Can you check up on the Lyoko Warrior stats connected to the SuperComputer on Twilight's Interface computer?" Kurisu asked. "Sure. I'll go check." Jeremie said, going downstairs to Twilight's Basement and turning on her Interface. "Why the databases? You think Lyoko's got something to do with this??" Twilight asked. "Let's just say, I had this exact same problem with Xana... when he was still evil." Kurisu said. Manner of saying, bringing up around 6 years ago, Kurisu underwent a similar phase when Xana had attacked him using a clone with dark, powerful claws, using savagery to virtually insert Nightmare Poison in Kurisu's head, and whenever he had dozed off or had his eyes closed, the nightmare only got worse and if he were to die in his dream, so in the reality of the wake world. The plan was foiled, however, when Kurisu concentrated enough energy and believed in himself when he saw Xana was behind it. "Hey guys! I think we have a problem!" Jeremie said from the Basement.
The ponies trotted down to where Jeremie was and flashing on the screen was one minor error in Twilight's digital Lyoko avatar, pointing in an area in her brain. "But... How's that possible??!" Twilight shouted. "I don't get it. I don't have any recollection Twilight getting savaged from our recent practice segment!" Kurisu said. "Maybe not, but the stats records DOES show she had lost very plenty Life Points during that segment." Jeremie said. Twilight gasped in surprise, then slumped as if her head's hurting. "Oohhh..." Kurisu said.
They could recollect it well. They practice their routines every Monday on Lyoko, and the previous routine was definitely in the Desert Sector. They were near a Tower and they remember fighting some Hornets, but it all went bizarre when an Insekt made a nasty sneak attack and charged up its laser and zapping Twilight in the back. Not only that, but when she tried facing it, it somehow dodged her line of vision and somehow clenched onto her under her wings, generating a vibrant shock through her and made her pass out for a short while. After the noticeable attack, Kurisu destroyed it, no problem, but it didn't look like Twilight survived well. After a digital recovery from the Tower, the session was aborted.
"This.. This is all news to me... I thought your virtual avatars wouldn't get harmed physically IN the virtual world!" Twilight said. "I think I forgot to mention there were some drawbacks. Apparently, data reconfiguration upon before, during, or after virtualisation OR de-virtualisation. To think not even the digital recovery worked in Twilight's favor." Kurisu explained. Twilight slumped again, placing her head on the silver metal of the keyboard base. "Ugh... I feel awful..." she whined, wincing and yawning. "Know you know how I feel getting a headache." Kurisu said, until getting a glare from Alexis. "Maybe you need some rest, Twilight. Maybe this is just a one-time thing." Alexis said. "Yeah, and I'll keep an eye out for any activated Towers." Jeremie said, bringing up the Deep Scan. "Alright..." Twilight said weakly before heading back up for a nap.

Twilight Sparkle was able to return to her slumber, hoping to get a nap to make up over the loss of last night's sleep. Downstairs, the timely arrival of Rainbow Dash came in. "Hey-ya guys! Where's Alicorn Sparkle?" Rainbow asked. "She had a nightmare. One that put her in fear. She's hoping a nap right now will make it  up to her." Aelita said. "A NAP? During the DAY? Over one little measly NIGHTMARE??" Rainbow asked sarcastically. "Rainbow Dash... The nightmare she encountered was far more worse than little! And yes, it IS possible to take a nap during the day... *yawn* Heck, even I'm due for one for all the progress I've tried to grab overnight." Kurisu said. "Yeah, sure, playing your special "GAMES" all night will hurt your "special eyes". When will you learn to relax?" Rainbow asked. "Coming from the pony with little to no ambition in her calendar!" Kurisu said.
As the quarrel began going down downstairs, Twilight started to dream again, and sadly it wasn't any different. Instead, it was just the same when Mephiles started to attack her. As Mephiles started to thrust towards her again, instead of going at her straight, she attempted to dodge the attack before he swiped at her. Her dodging landed her a few feet from his position. "WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM?!" she shouted. "Trapped within a scepter for thousands of years, bent on revenge and destruction, possessing many a foe to go after the main Lyoko Warriors. That is my role. However, one's ally's destruction becomes one another's DOWNFALL." Mephiles says darkly. "You... You're a psychopath!! You expect to literally kill me in my sleep?!" Twilight asked. "Ah, but that's just the main scratch of the surface. As long as you are asleep, I have plenty of chances to take you out." Mephiles says as he starts to charge up his laser blast. Again, Twilight felt another pause holding her in place and wanted to wake up before the shot hit her like before. The immediate jolt from the attack made her scream once more, even to make sure the ponies downstairs heard her!
Rainbow, Aelita and Kurisu raced upstairs to find Twilight in a scared panic again, somewhat more calmer than before. "I... take it her nap didn't go so well." Rainbow said. "What happened THIS time?" Aelita asked. "I got away from his slash, but then he tried to fire a laser at me! I was frozen stiff!" Twilight replied. Rainbow Dash put on a disgusted look on her muzzle and lowered to Kurisu's ear, whispering. "HOW weird did you say her nightmare thing was?" she asked. "Are you fine enough to get back to the nap and confront him again? We'll check stuff out on Lyoko." Aelita said. "No... No I'll just try to stay awake... Do your.. thing on Lyoko... Find that Tower... before... I... ugh..." she sighs exhaustedly. Kurisu puts on a worried look and then turns to Rainbow Dash and Spike. "Stay here and keep on her lookout. Tell Jeremie for any signs within her condition." Kurisu said. "Got it!" Spike said. "...OK. I'll stay by her side. She did for me, I'll do it for her. Just teach that Meph-thing not to mess with us ponies!" Rainbow said. "Trust me. This is one pony he'll regret ever attacking." Kurisu said. As they left, Rainbow turned to Twilight and it looked like she nearly dozed off again.
"Virtualisation!" Jeremie announced, virtualising Kurisu, Aelita and Alexis into the Desert Sector. "I'm only gonna hand a guess you virtualised us here is that there's a possibility an activated Tower is in this Sector?" Alexis asked. "Might be! ...Unless if I get results soon, or if the Deep Scan is starting to bug up! Only a tiny hint of the co-ordinates said it is in the Desert! Bringing up the vehicles!" Jeremie explained. Just then, the OverCycle and the OverWing came up and all three virtualisants went forward abroad the horizon.
Back upstairs, Twilight had dozed off again, facing Mephiles, and just as successful somehow avoided his death beam. "You... won't win!! You'll never get rid of me!" Twilight insisted. "Tch! I sense just as now those Lyoko Warriors are on their way to foil my plan yet again! I assume they meddle yet again, should I unleash my pet!" Mephiles said. "What pet??" Twilight asked.
Just as they thought they were in the clear, a loud screech reached Alexis' oversensitive ears and perked her in horror. "Uh oh! That roar!" Alexis said. Just then, something appeared over the side of the plateau in the Desert's digital water, erupting from it - stood a figure darkly resembling a Lugia but with evil-like features. The Warriors gasped in horror as their fears came true. "Shadow Lugia!! XD001!!" Alexis cried. Shadow Lugia giggled. "Thought you wouldn't see me again, huh Lexi?" she snickered. "Why does it ALWAYS HAVE TO BE YOU when it comes to dream-induced situations, huh? First you attack Dorima, then you get Mephiles to attack Twilight! What's your damage?" Kurisu asked angrily. "Nothing personal, Kuri. We just want to attack first before those Evils do. And what's more better than spreading fear??" she replies.

"Despicable, XD. You lackeys take advantage of one Equestrian's sleep! For that, I'll stop you and put an end to this attack!" Alexis roared as she leapt from the OverWing and transformed into her Reshiram form to go at odds against Shadow Lugia. "KURISU! AELITA! GO ON TOWARDS THE TOWER! I'll hold her off!" Alexis roared. The two hadn't any time to reply and just went with the decision and fast-paced it on their vehicles.
Meanwhile, Twilight was tossing and turning, sweating in her confrontation. Mephiles swiped at her again and again, but each attack she dodged. "Guess it's time for me to attack! Take that!!" Twilight said as she started to fire her Arrows at Mephiles, making successful shots. By this point, Kurisu and Aelita went as fast as they could to the Tower, while each second Twilight and Mephiles and Alexis and Shadow Lugia were in their own battles. Just then, Kurisu spotted the Tower. "Jeremie! Do you still need the Deep Scan?" Kurisu asked lamely. "I can't say for sure. I think it's bugged. I can't get results fast enough!" Jeremie said. "Because I think the Tower WAS in the Desert after all! We're only a few feet away!" Kurisu said, both them dashing quick by vehicle.
Mephiles was beginning to be enraged and thought this was the last straw. He zoomed around Twilight and started to pin her down - and at the same time, grasping her throat, both in her dream and in reality. "I think I've just had about enough playing games with you. And now you will get your demise!!" Mephiles said. This put ultimate fear in Twilight.
Kurisu dashed into the Tower and didn't hesitate to reach the platform quickly and levitated himself to the upper platform. Mephiles was about a slash away. Kurisu immediately inputted the Code Lyoko and de-activated the Tower. Just then, mere inches from Twilight's destruction, Mephiles started to digitally fizz out and break apart, and a deep purple mist left her ears and the energy was exuded from her horn. "Just to make sure you're defeated, take THIS!!" Twilight said, thrusting an energy blast from her palm, Force Palming Mephiles away from her and de-rezzing him from her subconscious.
The Tower closed and Shadow Lugia grumbled. "This is not over, darling. We WILL meet again." Shadow Lugia said as she dove in the Digital Sea, disappearing. Alexis only gave back a mean stare in the Digital Sea abyss where Shadow Lugia left.
The next two days went smoothly again for Twilight Sparkle as she got better sleep. She went downstairs to greet another good day, as Kurisu came in. "Hey Twigh. Feel better at last?" Kurisu asked. "Yeah. MUCH better now that that incident's done with. Gee, that WASN'T a pleasant experience." Twilight replied. "Now you know how I feel! Probably better now we just forget about it and move on to a better day." Kurisu said. "Agreed." Twilight Sparkle said. Then she looked at the scroll sitting on the table. "But do you think it's worth writing to the Princess? I mean, to Princess Celestia?" Twilight asked. "It's up to you. Whether it be a Friendship lesson or not! I'm not sure!" Kurisu says obliviously. "Well! Worth a shot." Twilight says.

I don't know if this counts for a Friendship lesson, but I think I've learned something. It's that dreams, good or nightmares, comes in any form. But I get the feeling this recent incident was attacked toward me, and I lost a bit of sleep trying to stay awake after that. So... I'm not sure if I learned anything, but I'm sure it may be the outcome of the dream that determines if you'd survive or not... Or... something like that. But please don't take this the wrong way. It was that rat Mephiles that got me into writing it.

She turns around to Kurisu and sees him doze off. She just shrugs and giggles at him, rolling her eyes as the episode ends.
